Latest Status of National Program for Prevention & Control of Blindness, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

 Objective:

  • Upgradation of Eye Departments of 05 Teaching Hospitals
  • Upgradation of Eye Departments of THQ Hospitals
  • Upgradation of Eye Departments of 23 DHQ Hospitals

 Brief:

The overall goal of the program is prevention and control of avoidable blindness in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Up-gradation of eye departments of the hospitals in the Province in terms of provision of latest ophthalmic equipment, HRD / Capacity building of the eye care personnel, provision of the outreach eye care services (screening and surgical), awareness raising, research and community development are the main objectives of the program. So far, under the program, eye departments of one center of excellence (HMC), 05 teaching hospitals, 12 DHQ hospitals and 07 THQ hospitals have been upgraded under the program.

Project Other Details:

Total Cost & Duration: RS. 95.445 million (2015-18)

Allocation in CFY 2017-18: Rs. 53 million

Progress for 2015-17: In this project Rs. 17.242 million have been utilized during the last two years.

Physical Progress: 

1.Eye equipment provided to eye departments of 04 hospitals (HMC Peshawar, ATH Abbottabad, DHQ Hospitals Karak & Bannu).

2.300 free cataract surgeries performed in two years.

3.World Sight Day & World Glaucoma Week celebrated and awareness material distributed among the eye departments of all districts.
