Evolution of PICO
The Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology (PICO) started as Center for Community Eye Health at the department of opthalmology Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar in 1989 with one medical officer, on deputation from Federal Ministry of Health, who had done MSc in Community Eye Health from International Center for Eye Health London. The objective was to rationalize the control startegies of blindness at the community level. More


Achievements of PICO
Human Resource Development, Comprehensive Eye Care Program, Induction of Primary eye Care Program in to Primary Health Care Program, Introduction of Vitamin A in the EPI Program, Reduction of Burden of Cataract Blindness, Development of Intra-Ocular Lens Bank, Development of Corneal Bank, Development of Low Vision Clinics, Development of Community Vision Clinics, Development of State of the Arts Facilities at HMC, Research, International Assistance. More
