B.S. in Vision Sciences, offered by the Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology, Khyber Medical University is a four-year programme that is expected to enable the graduates to play a pivotal role as an important member of Eye Care team. They will assist the ophthalmologists in providing Comprehensive Eye Care to the people belonging to all segments of the community at primary, secondary and tertiary level of eye care services.

ADMISSION IS OPEN IN THE FOLLOWING COURSES
- BS. In Vision Sciences – 4 year Programme
- Ophthalmic Nursing Course – 1 year Diploma
- Ophthalmic Technician Training Course – 2 year Diploma
Eligibility for BS. in Vision Sciences
- F.Sc. Pre Medical preferably A or B grade
- Ophthalmic Technicians who have completed Ophthalmic Technician Training Course from PICO within last 5 years, may also apply provided, that they hold an FSc. (pre medical) degree.
Eligibility for Ophthalmic Nursing Course
- Certified nurse registered with the Pakistan Nursing Council having a minimum of one year experience in ophthalmology.
- Only those candidates who apply through proper channel would be eligible for the course. (i.e. applications forwarded through The Head of the Department, Matron, Medical Superintendent, Directorate of Health/ Directorate of Nursing).
- Candidates from all over Pakistan & abroad can apply, the distribution of seats is as follows; NWFP 2, Sindh 1, Balochistan 1, AJK/ Northern 1.
Eligibility for Ophthalmic Technician Training Course
- For candidates, the minimum requirements is Matric with Science ( with minimum of C grade and a course certificate from medical faculty).
AGE
18 – 25 year, however relaxation would be given to in service candidates according to the laid down Govt. rules. Age limit for category 4 is 35 years.
DISTRIBUTION OF SEATS
Candidates from all over Pakistan may apply, preference would be given to NWFP, FATA, Northern areas and AJK domicile holders and to candidates from Comprehensive Eye Care Programme districts where there is a deficiency of Ophthalmic technician.
Gender
Either gender, Female candidates will be preferred.
Last date for submission of applications for all the courses is 30 th October, 2007.
The interviews of the short listed candidates for Ophthalmic nursing Course & Ophthalmic Technician Training Course will be held on 2 nd December 2007 while for BS. in Vision Sciences will be held on 3 rd December 2007 .
No TA/DA will be given to the candidates.

TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR APPLICANTS
Maximum of 5 year relaxation may be given to in service candidates. Selected candidates will give an undertaking / bond that they will attend all the classes/ practical regularly and not leave the course incomplete.
During this course, the selected candidates will not appear in any other examination and courses. ECG technician, Laboratory technician, X-Ray technician, EPI Technicians and other specialized technician are not eligible for this course
